Indigenous Health Services Pharmacy Support Program

The Indigenous Health Services Pharmacy Support Program is an initiative designed to enhance access to pharmaceutical services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Its primary goal is to ensure culturally safe, accessible, and appropriate pharmacy support for these communities.

Objectives

Improved Access: Ensuring Indigenous Australians can access essential medications and pharmacy services, particularly in remote and rural areas.

Culturally Appropriate Care: Encouraging pharmacies to provide culturally sensitive care tailored to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Health Promotion: Supporting initiatives that educate Indigenous communities about medication use, chronic disease management, and preventive health.

Key Features

Cultural Awareness Training: Participating IPA pharmacies are required to undertake cultural awareness training to ensure their services are respectful and effective.

Collaboration with Health Services: Pharmacies are encouraged to collaborate with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) and other Indigenous health services.

Dose Administration Aids (DAAs): Providing dose administration aids to support medication adherence.

Medication Reviews: Offering medication review services to help optimise treatment outcomes for patients.
